My great-grandparents built the Hotel Miramonti in Cortina d'Ampezzo, and that Italian hospitality — generous, unhurried, built around the table — has stayed with me. From a base on the French Riviera, the Italian border and the wider Italian Riviera are close enough to make part of a single lifestyle rather than a separate trip, and I share that lifestyle with a small number of guests who want more than a day excursion.
